Lana Del Rey Says 'Saturday Night Live' Gig Not A 'Fluke'

'I may not have a record out now, but I have been singing for a very long time,' Del Rey tells critics who argue she hasn't earned 'SNL' slot.

Within the span of six months, Lana Del Rey has risen from a much-discussed blog curio to a major-label recording artist with an anticipated disc (Born to Die, due at the end of the month) waiting in the wings.

It's the kind of leap few have made, one that's led many to question whether she deserves so much so quickly. This weekend, she'll perform on "Saturday Night Live," the kind of gig usually reserved for the biggest of the big — and, yes, those same critics have already expressed their displeasure over that fact.

So when Del Rey stopped by the MTV Newsroom earlier this week to discuss her meteoric climb, we asked about the backlash over her "SNL" performance. Not surprisingly, she had plenty to say on the matter.

"I definitely think it's an honor. ... I don't think they've ever had anyone [perform] who didn't even have a record out, so I do appreciate it," she said. "[But I got it] because I'm a good musician. And I may not have a record out now, but I have been singing for a very long time, and I think that ['SNL' creator] Lorne [Michaels] knows that, and everyone over there knows that. It's not a fluke decision.

"It's not a traditional choice for 'Saturday Night Live,' especially because the content of the record is different; it's not pop," she continued. "But they're also having ... Bon Iver, so again, not the most traditional choice."

Though she's aware there will be plenty of folks watching her Saturday, Del Rey remains rather unfazed by the whole thing. In fact, she doesn't care what her critics have to say, and she's not interested in debating whether she's paid her dues. To be honest, she's just focused on not screwing up royally.

"You just think to yourself, 'Don't f--- up.' And that's it. That's all you ever think with live television. You hope that it goes well, and I'm just going to put my dress on, there's going to be a spotlight, I got this amazing band I've worked with this year, they'll be there," she said. "I don't even know what I'm singing yet. I'm singing 'Video Games,' and I don't know what the second song is. ... A lot of it depends on what's going on with my family and everyone around me. If I have other things to think about, and I'm not in my own way, it doesn't really matter. Sometimes it seems more important to me than others."

<P>New Year's Eve is the last chance you'll have to party in 2011. And as the days to plan out your big night begin to dwindle, MTV News is rounding up some of the biggest parties on the planet. From Los Angeles to New York, there's something for everyone. The Kardashians will be hosting several parties all over Las Vegas. Kim will be at Tao (for a <a href="http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2011/dec/27/kim-kardashians-paycheck-tao-new-years-eve-600000" target="_blank">fee</a> of reportedly $600,000), Kourtney, along with the Madden Brothers, will party it up at Chateau Nightclub & Gardens at Paris while Rob has it on lock at Tryst. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:693516" width="240" height="211"></div><p> Other big Sin City parties include Chris Brown's shindig at Pure, Mary J. Blige's bash at RPM Nightclub, Bruno Mars at The Bank and B.o.B at LAX (the club, not the airport). Fergie and will.i.am will both be in Vegas to ring in 2012. The Black Eyed Peas' leading lady will be at 1OAK, while will.i.am be DJing at Surrender. Professional party rockers LMFAO will be shufflin' all night long at Haze Nightclub at Aria. <a href="/news/articles/1676473/john-legend-engaged.jhtml">Newly engaged John Legend</a> will perform at the Palms with T-Pain and Paul Oakenfold. As celeb-filled as it may seem, not all the stars will be in Vegas. In Los Angeles, Mario Lopez is hosting a party at Hollywood & Highland that boasts performances by Lupe Fiasco and Cobra Starship. And in Chicago, "American Idol" alum Lee DeWyze will be at the Hard Rock Hotel with DJ Chris Kennedy (Chris Masterson) spinning tunes. Kanye West's plans have yet to be determined, but he recently <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/kanyewest/status/151863657763045378" target="_blank">tweeted</a> he's looking for a place to DJ right into 2012. We're sure someone will find a place for him at their party. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:721052" width="240" height="211"></div><p> New York is the home of all things New Year's. Lady Gaga has been booked to perform on two NYE specials: the 40th annual <a href="/news/articles/1675506/nicki-minaj-dick-clarks-new-years-eve.jhtml">"Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve"</a> and the Japanese program "Kohaku Uta Gassen." For those who want to snuggle up on their couch and avoid all the partying madness, MTV has your back. This year Demi Lovato, Mac Miller, Selena Gomez, J. Fans might not know Pop and Oak by name, but they damn sure know their beats. Trey Songz's "Unusual," Big Sean and Kanye West's "Marvin & Chardonnay" and, of course, Nicki Minaj's 2010 single "Your Love" are just a few of the duo's hits.

Now they're up for a Grammy thanks to their work on Nicki's Pink Friday, which is nominated in the Best Rap Album category.

Pop, a Philadelphia native, and his production partner, Oak, who hails from Istanbul, Turkey, have been working as a duo since 2008, back when they first produced "Your Love" for a then-emerging Minaj. " 'Your Love' was a song that didn't make Beam Me Up Scotty, the mixtape," Pop told Mixtape Daily.

Nicki was super-critical of her performance on the song, but after it eventually leaked at the top of 2010, there was no stopping it — well, there was one little obstacle to clear. The original leaked version featured a sample of Annie Lennox's 1995 version of "No More I Love You's," but after the U.K. singer wouldn't clear the sample, Pop and Oak had to come up with an alternative.

"They didn't let us clear the sample, so the version that leaked wasn't the version that got on the radio. We ended up re-creating it," Oak said.

The duo redid the sample a little too well, it seemed. Even after the switch-up, Lennox's lawyers continued to reach out, thinking Nicki's new version of "Your Love" still incorporated the sample. "They thought what they were hearing on the radio was still the master," Oak said.

"Annie Lennox thought she was hearing herself, which was fly as hell," Pop added.

<P>Imagine a freight train speeding toward you at midnight. Or a rockslide barreling down a hill as you try to outrace it. That's the feeling of the ominous, chugging Jimmy Page riff that kicks off <MTVNLINK type="url" id="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/led_zeppelin/artist.jhtml">Led Zeppelin</MTVNLINK>'s 1970 Stonehenge of rock, "Whole Lotta Love." And that's before singer Robert Plant leans into one of the nastiest, ecstatic rock screams this side of the Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again." That's the song Adam Lambert chose to sing on <a href="/news/articles/1610708/adam-allison-shine-on-idol-rock-night.jhtml">"American Idol" rock night</a> Tuesday (May 5), and, needless to say, it was a challenge that the eyeliner-loving Los Angeles stage veteran was more than up for, hitting a series of high notes and rock screams that would have made Plant proud. It was a risky maneuver that paid off for Lambert, who chose a tune that came in at #75 on <I>Rolling Stone</i> magazine's list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" in 2004. </p><div style="margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; float: left;"> <embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtvmusic.com:84215" width="256" height="223" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" flashVars="dist=http://www.mtvmusic.com" allowFullScreen="true" AllowScriptAccess="always"></embed></div><p> The legendary British rock act recorded the tribute to Chicago blues icon Willie Dixon during their second U.S. tour after working it out in their live show, including it on their 1969 classic album <I>Led Zeppelin II.</i> Like many of the songs Zeppelin performed early in their career, "Love" was a blues standard turned on its head with a heavy dose of crunching psychedelic guitar and thundering drums, courtesy of late drummer John Bonham. The song was based on a 1962 tune by another blues forefather, Muddy Waters, called "You Need Love," which was penned by Dixon. For Zeppelin's version, Plant customized the lyrics by adding some lyrical quotes from a few other songs Dixon wrote for Howlin' Wolf, "Back Door Man" and "Shake For Me," nailing the tricky vocal in a single take. It was also inspired by 1966's "You Need Loving" from the British rock group the Small Faces, for whom Zeppelin had great affection, but they also did not credit Dixon for his part in writing the original lyrics. The song became Zeppelin's first U.S. single and their only U.S. top 10 hit. Though their manager would not let them release singles in the U.K. because he thought it cannibalized album sales, the song was finally released as the band's only British single in 1997. Dixon sued Zeppelin over the song in 1985, claiming it borrowed too heavily from his "You Need Love," and Zeppelin reached an agreement with him, with Dixon using the money he received to set up a program that provided musical instruments for schools. A cornerstone of heavy rock, the tune -- which was the theme song for the long-running British countdown show "Top of the Pops" in the 1970s and '80s -- has been covered by dozens of artists over the years, from Tina Turner and Ben Harper to Prince, Slash, Leona Lewis, Train's Pat Monahan, the London Symphony Orchestra and Jane's Addiction. <b>Get your "Idol" fix on MTV News' <a href="/news/articles/1486475/mtv-news-american-idol.jhtml">"American Idol" page</a>, where you'll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions.</b></p>

<P>On November 1, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a> will take his fans <a href="/news/articles/1672827/justin-bieber-under-the-mistletoe.jhtml"><i>Under the Mistletoe</i></a> on his holiday album. But he's giving them an early treat by releasing his <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/usher/artist.jhtml">Usher</a> duet, "The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)," on Monday (October 24). </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="id:1672718" width="240" height="211"></div><p> The song dropped on Ryan Seacrest's <a href="http://ryanseacrest.com/2011/10/24/usher-premieres-duet-with-justin-bieber-chestnuts-over-an-open-fire-audio/" target="_blank">radio show</a>. Its vibe is reminiscent of '90s R&B tracks, and it sounds a lot like it could have been recorded by Boyz II Men, who also appear on the album. The Christmas classic is all about the little joys of the holiday season, including the family get-togethers, the food and Santa bringing presents to children. The song, one of the classics that appears on the album, hits iTunes on Monday. Bieber and Usher previously appeared together on "Somebody to Love" off <i>My World 2.0.</i> "Justin and I did the classic record 'Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire.' This record is going to be remembered for years to come," Usher told Seacrest on Monday morning. "It's a record that has always been one of my favorites, and I'm happy that I was able to share it with Justin, and for us to put it out. The album is full of surprises. Justin's <i>Under the Mistletoe</i> is going to be incredible!" In the lead-up to the release, Bieber <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/justinbieber/status/128163827832467456" target="_blank">released</a> some behind-the-scenes footage of his mentor and him in the studio working on the song. He also shared that he had another surprise in store for his fans. Just one week after dropping the video for "Mistletoe," he <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/justinbieber/status/128479978106003456" target="_blank">tweeted</a>, "Up early to shoot another video for #UNDERTHEMISTLETOE #Nov1st but something else is out this morning...." Tamar and Vince Herbert Cover JET, Finally Ready For KIDS?

In the latest issue of "JET" Magazine, reality TV stars Vincent Herbert and Tamar Braxton open up about their strong marriage and friendship, their upcoming reality show and their plans to start a family. Deets inside.....

As fans will tell you, Tamar Braxton and Vincent Herbert make for an interesting reality TV couple. While she is loud and animated, he is quiet and calm. And though she LOVES to be the center of attention, he likes to play the background (as evidenced by his super successful career as a low-key music executive.). And in the latest issue of JET, the odd-couple discuss their love, their plans for Tamar's album and if kids are in their future.

About their relationship, Vince says,

“We have fun, which is what a relationship is all about. Tamar is the greatest. Like, we’d just drive to Disneyland, then go to the movies and fall asleep. Because we are friends and you can’t stress that enough in a relationship. We have our arguments and disagreements, but that’s life."

But how does quiet Vince deal with Tamar's over-the-top-attitude? She says,

“He’s my husband, and I don’t talk to him the way I’d talk to a girlfriend.”

And though he is very private, Vincent revealed that he started writing songs at the age of 13 and he strongly believes in marriage because his parents were together for 25 years (both are now deceased).

“My parents were together for 25 years. I even remember their last anniversary. That’s how much I paid attention. He rented a limousine, made a reservation and they went to this hall in West Orange, NJ. He died of a broken heart. He adored my mom.”

And Vincent surely adores Tamar and snaps at folks claiming she's a golddigger. “I love my wife. This girl is so far from being a gold digger. I wouldn’t be with someone like that for nine years.

Tamar says: “When I met Vince I had my own house. I had my own car. I was independent.”

But the couple has had setbacks, most recently Vince's health scare. Tamar revealed,

“It was the first thing we ever had to deal with outside of the normal relationship thing. It went from dinner, to a doctor, to a hospital, to he’s in a coma. I had to sign a lot of papers. I’m happy that we were friends because when you’re going through ‘what would he do?’ you remember those conversations. At first Doogie Howser was his doctor, and I was like no. I want someone with gray hair."

“We have a new outlook on life because of what happened. Everything before now has been erased.”

Talking about Tamar's upcoming album, they revealed that she is signed to her husband's label and Interscope. Tamar says (in third person), “I have to do this. I wake up in the morning and want to go to the studio, because if I don’t go, ‘her’ is going to be upset.”

Fans will also see the couple on their own show this season and they say it's won't impair their marriage.

“Let me tell you why reality TV marriages fail,” Tamar injected. Because they’re being fake, and then when they see it on TV they argue.”

Thankfully, that won't happen to Vince and Tamar.

So what's next for the couple? They shared with the magazine their top-three must haves:

The Couple’s Must-Have List:

1. A Havanese dog. Vince wants the pet for walks.

2. Two kids. Tamar is planning for twins (which she calls the Mariah Carey syndrome after her good friend).

3. Making moves. The couple just scooped up a $6.9 million mansion— now it’s time to settle in.

Set to work with fellow hitmaker <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/cruz__taio/artist.jhtml">Taio Cruz</a>, the two already cooked up some magic with their <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/guetta_david/artist.jhtml">David Guetta</a> anthem <a href="/news/articles/1670301/usher-david-guetta-without-you.jhtml">"Without You,"</a> and it seems they are hoping to recapture that spirit for Usher's follow-up to 2010's <i>Raymond v. Raymond</i>. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:717257" width="240" height="211"></div><p> "I saw Usher a few times, but I spoke to him at length at David [Guetta]'s house when we were in Ibiza [Spain]," he told MTV News in L.A. after his Jingle Ball set. "He has very specific ideas of where he wants to go musically and sound-wise." Given that Usher has never shied away from exposing a bit of himself in his music, while also keeping the party going, Cruz wants to make sure they can connect the mind, body and soul for this next release. "He always wants there to be the soul in there," he explained. "I'm kind of, not the opposite, but I'm always like, 'Let's get straight to the point and be really clear with the message and be simple.' "So we try to match those two worlds together: being soulful and, at the same time, catchy," he added. Cruz can't yet discuss what they're working on: Besides "Without You," he said, "Everything else is secret." Usher said he was drawn to the <a href="/news/articles/1674782/usher-david-guetta-without-you.jhtml">Guetta hit</a> because he connected to it emotionally, explaining to MTV News recently what an important part that plays in his musical philosophy. "I think the world wanted a record like that. That [song] really spoke to the journey that I've actually been on in the last three years," he said. "Traveling all around the world, music sounds different. Kids are growing up fast these days. One day, they're playing fullback for the Dillon Panthers. Next thing you know, they're saving Mars, selling weed and fighting aliens on a battleship.

For Taylor Kitsch, 2012 is the year he grows up. A fan favorite from the "Friday Night Lights" television show, Kitsch makes the transition to full-on action star with "John Carter" and "Battleship." If that weren't enough, later in the year, he'll star in "Savages," a crime film helmed by one of Hollywood's most formidable directors, Oliver Stone.

And Kitsch knows exactly what he's getting into: "It's a pretty all-or-nothing year, right?"

"All-or-nothing" is about as close as you can get to properly describing the year Kitsch has in front of him. Aside from starring in "FNL" creator Peter Berg's next film, "Battleship," Kitsch is smack-dab in the middle of Disney's big-budget sci-fi epic "John Carter." When it comes down to it, the fate of "John Carter" may rest firmly on Kitsch's abs.

"Of course, there's the physicality," said Kitsch, explaining his revealing wardrobe, comprised mostly of a glorified loincloth. "You're pretty out there, not going to lie." Kitsch insisted that the fashion choices never bothered him because it was true to the character. "It felt right, so it wasn't such a big deal," he said.

Despite the film's special effects and high budget, Kitsch said there is something much deeper to this story of a transported Civil War captain. "There's kind of that stigma with big movies that it's just action," Kitsch said. "But with this, it's really just the core of this guy and his journey of reinventing himself and finding himself again."

With such a full plate, Kitsch said he feels a whole mix of emotions, both good and bad. "I think it's a bit of everything," he said. "I'm excited. I'm nervous, but I'm also super proud of it, and I can't wait to show. Especially from 'John Carter' to 'Battleship' to 'Savages,' that's such a different landscape of a character."

Michael Jackson's Family Not Out For 'Revenge'

<P>At Tuesday's (November 29) sentencing hearing for Dr. Conrad Murray — where Michael Jackson's former personal physician received <a href="/news/articles/1675062/conrad-murray-sentence.jhtml">four years in jail for involuntary manslaughter</a> — a statement from Jackson's parents was read in court. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:708788.id:1673923" width="240" height="211"></div><p> "We still look at each other in disbelief: Is it really possible he is gone? It is simply against the natural order of things," Joe and Katherine Jackson said in the statement, read by Jackson family attorney Brian Panish. "We are not here to seek revenge. There is nothing you can do here today that will bring Michael back." <a href="http://www.facebook.com/mtvnews/posts/199210760161755" target="_blank"><b>Do you think Conrad Murray deserved the maximum sentence? Let us know on Facebook.</b></a> Along with Katherine, Michael's siblings LaToya, Jermaine, Randy and Rebbie were also reportedly in attendance at the hearing. In regards to the sentence, the family said in the statement: "We respectfully request you impose a sentence that reminds physicians they cannot sell their services to the highest bidder." The judge agreed, lamenting that due to a new California law to address overcrowding in prisons, he was unable to sentence Murray to state prison. Stating that Murray practiced "horrible medicine" and had "absolutely no remorse," Judge Michael Pastor declined the defense's motion for probation and handed down the stiffest sentence possible — four years — which Murray will most likely serve in a Los Angeles county jail or on home confinement. Upon leaving the courthouse, Michael's brother Jermaine, when asked if the four-year sentence was enough, shook his head and said, "No." Katherine told local TV station KTLA, "Four years is not enough for someone's life. It won't bring him back. But at least he got the maximum, and I thought the judge was very, very fair."</p>

On November 1, Justin Bieber will take his fans Under the Mistletoe on his holiday album. But he's giving them an early treat by releasing his Usher duet, "The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)," on Monday (October 24).

The song dropped on Ryan Seacrest's radio show. Its vibe is reminiscent of '90s R&B tracks, and it sounds a lot like it could have been recorded by Boyz II Men, who also appear on the album. The Christmas classic is all about the little joys of the holiday season, including the family get-togethers, the food and Santa bringing presents to children. The song, one of the classics that appears on the album, hits iTunes on Monday. Bieber and Usher previously appeared together on "Somebody to Love" off My World 2.0. "Justin and I did the classic record 'Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire.' This record is going to be remembered for years to come," Usher told Seacrest on Monday morning. "It's a record that has always been one of my favorites, and I'm happy that I was able to share it with Justin, and for us to put it out. The album is full of surprises. Justin's Under the Mistletoe is going to be incredible!" In the lead-up to the release, Bieber released some behind-the-scenes footage of his mentor and him in the studio working on the song. He also shared that he had another surprise in store for his fans. Just one week after dropping the video for "Mistletoe," he tweeted, "Up early to shoot another video for #UNDERTHEMISTLETOE #Nov1st but something else is out this morning...." In addition to Usher, Under the Mistletoe will also feature appearances from the Band Perry, Busta Rhymes, Boyz II Men and Mariah Carey, who re-recorded her classic "All I Want for Christmas" for the album.

It's prom season, and that means high schoolers across this great land will be renting tuxes, buying fancy dresses and negotiating the details of their curfews with parents. So, before you take your pictures and get in your limos, we asked some Hollywood A-listers to recall their fondest prom memories. "I had a great prom," Ne-Yo told MTV News. "I didn't get to go with who I wanted to go with. I got my second choice, but my second choice turned out to be the one I was supposed to be there with, so it turned out good."

Ke$ha, never one to say no to a party, had the best night of all her friends. "I went to prom with my gay best friend, and let me tell you, I had way more fun than anybody else at a prom with their boyfriends," she recalled. "Everybody else was, like, crying and drama and breaking up, and me and my gay best friend just danced until 8 a.m." "Hellcats" star Aly Michalka doesn't have a favorite prom memory — because she never went to prom. "I was homeschooled, so I don't even think we had a fake prom," she lamented. "Like, maybe we had a home-school prom and I wasn't invited?" While everything always seems to be in peril on "The Vampire Diaries," star Nina Dobrev had a less tumultuous night: "Having everyone get together and such a final celebration [is what I remember]." Romeo went big for his prom. "My senior prom, I remember I pulled up in my red Ferrari. I was feeling like James Bond," he said. "And it was one of the best nights of my life." "My favorite prom memory was probably going shopping for a dress, and our boyfriends at the time dressed up as 'Dumb & Dumber,' " Audrina Patridge laughed. "And so we were like, 'We can't dress up dorky ... we have to look good.' " Roots drummer ?uestlove made a big decision on the night of his prom: "June 2, 1989, was my very last haircut; prom haircut, totally butchered my hair. He butchered my hair, and I vowed never again to ever get in a barber chair, so I grew that Afro on my prom night." Adam Lambert said his prom date was a 10, so he definitely had a fun night. "I had a great prom. I had an awesome time," he said. "I went with one of my best friends in high school. Her name was Lauren, and she was really hot. 'Devil Inside' Advance Screenings Draw Passionate Reactions

Fans report being terrified, but some critics tweet about audiences booing at film's conclusion.

"The Devil Inside," the latest entry in the found-footage genre, screened Thursday night for special sneak-preview audiences and had the crowds screaming for two very different reasons.

Some of the audience members, like Adam Geldres, found themselves shaken up after the screening; Geldres insisted that it was "one of the scariest movies [he's] seen."

Ashlei Lien felt the same way. After the screening, she told MTV News and said, "I don't even want to pray, because I'm scared because in the movie he prays ..." but she couldn't finish her thought.

The film, which follows a young woman as she travels to Rome to meet with her possessed and dangerous mother, garnered passionate reactions across the board, but Twitter told a different story than the viewers we caught up with after the screening. Passion is not always positive.

Soon after the advance screenings ended, critics, who were also in attendance, took to Twitter to share the reactions many of them witnessed. Many reported booing at separate screenings as soon as the film ended.

Drew McWeeny from HitFix (@DrewAtHitFix) shared his experience from a regular midnight showing. "Wow. 'The Devil Inside' is a big ol' burn. Active booing in the (sold-out) theater tonight."

El Mayimbe from Latino Review (@elmayimbe) said that audiences were even more hostile at one New York screening. "Audience at NYC screening were ready to kill the filmmakers if they were in attendance. So they took it out on poor ushers."

SPOILER ALERT The controversy stemmed from the film's ending, which comes abruptly and, as many people claim, arbitrarily. A title on the screen then directs fans to a website to find out more.

Jason Derulo Fractures Neck, Cancels Tour

Jason Derulo was forced to cancel his upcoming tour on Thursday after fracturing his neck during rehearsals. According to the singer, he was trying to pull off an acrobatic move when he missed the landing and fell on his neck, causing an acute fracture of his vertebra.

Derulo, 22, addressed his fans about the accident on Twitter, posting a picture showing him in a neck brace and hospital gown and explaining, "I fractured my neck doing tumbling & acrobatics 4 tour! Always tryin 2 push boundaries 4 YOU! Like my new chain? ;)."

The singer's label also issued a statement from Derulo about the incident, which read, "To all my fans who planned to come to the 'Future History' world tour, the pain of letting you down cuts me way deeper than this injury I've sustained. My fans mean everything to me, so I'm praying for a speedy recovery in order to perform for you in the near future."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, as Derulo was being rushed to Memorial West Hospital in Pembroke Pines, Florida, he was told by doctors that he narrowly avoided being paralyzed in the incident. He's since been released from the hospital, but has been ordered to wear the neck brace for several months.

The tour, named after his second album , which was released in September, was slated to kick off in Glasgow on February 23.

The singer recently rocked the stage for MTV's "NYE in NYC 2012" celebration when he performed a high-energy set  of his hits "It Girl" and "Don't Wanna Go Home."
