HALO Again
Some teenagers aspire to more than meeting Tayor Swift, downloading Glee and getting their hands on Call of Duty: Black Ops. On Dec. 10, four super-philanthropic teens are being recognized at the second annual TeenNick HALO Awards for their active dedication to issues including Haiti earthquake assistance, child slavery, youth advocacy and overcoming disabilities. Created, hosted and executive produced by TeenNick Chairman, America's Got Talent host, radio show host and dad-to-be Nick Cannon, the event includes appearances by Ashton Kutcher, Rosario Dawson, Wyclef Jean and -- surprise! -- Cannon's wife Mariah Carey.
A New Christmas Hero?
A brand new 3D CG-animated holiday film is coming to theaters near you. Arthur Christmas (no relation to the nerdy aardvark who never graduates from grammar school) focuses on Santa's son (voiced by James McAvoy) and the high tech gadgetry his pop uses to deliver presents on Christmas Eve. Celebrity voices also include Hugh Laurie, Jim Broadbent, Bill Nighy, Imelda Staunton and Ashley Jensen.
Arthur is scheduled for a Nov.2011 release, but if you need something a little closer to the present (as well as the presents), there's nothing like the classics: CBS will air Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer on Nov.30 and Frosty the Snowman on Dec. 1; ABC will air Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas on Nov. 30, and Santa Claus is Comin' to Town on Dec. 2; and NBC airs It's a Wonderful Life on Dec. 13 and again on Dec. 24.
Kingdom Comes
We've seen a couple of museums come to life in the movies. Now it’s time for an amusement park. According to reports, Disney is putting together a movie called Magic Kingdom, in which one of the most famous parks in the world and its equally-famous attractions come to life. The movie will be directed by Iron Man director Jon Favreau. The idea isn't exactly original: A young adult book series published by Disney's Hyperion called The Kingdom Keepers by Ridley Pearson has the same idea. There may be a connection between the two, but a larger question is… who'll get to play Mickey?
Extra Wasabi
Tired of Power Rangers? Starting production early next year is a new live action comedy for Disney XD called Wasabi Warriors (I guess there can only be so many ninjas). The show, about down-and-out kids who work at a strip mall-based martial arts studio, is set to debut next spring. Stars include Jason Earles (Hannah Montana), Mateo Arias (Hannah Montana) and real-life black belt Leo Howard (Leo Little's Big Show).
