'Unknown' Leads Friday Box Office

Thriller bags $6.7 million while 'Justin Bieber: Never Say Never' tumbles to sixth place.
By Shawn Adler

Asking what movie kicked off President's Day weekend by winning the Friday night box office is like the start of a bad Abbott and Costello routine: It's "Unknown."

Despite middling reviews, the Liam Neeson starrer about a man who awakens after a car accident to discover the life he thought he had has been taken away, topped all comers with $6.7 million on Friday from 3,043 screens.

Expected to end at somewhere over $25 million for the four-day weekend, "Unknown" continues Neeson's recent domination of the February box office. The secretly badass star wowed audiences two years ago in "Taken," which, after opening in February 2008, ended its run with $226 million worldwide.

"I Am Number Four," meanwhile, will have to settle for being number two. On Friday, the teen-targeted alien picture finished in second place with $6.2 million. The latest from director D.J. Caruso, and star Alex Pettyfer, "I Am Number Four" could still win the weekend with a strong Saturday bounce.

Last week's winner, the Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston starring "Just Go With It," came in third place with $5.2 million.

Rounding out the top five, new release "Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son" and holdover "Gnomeo and Juliet" earned $4.8 million and $4.3 million, respectively.

Which means America may have finally found a cure for Bieber Fever, as the doe-eyed one's 3-D concert pic, "Justin Bieber: Never Say Never," toppled all the way from second to sixth place, earning just $3.8 million on Friday.

Among Oscar hopefuls, "The King's Speech" (seventh place) continued its impressive run. The presumptive favorite at the Academy Awards will pass $100 million domestically this weekend.

Wendy Williams Lands First Post-OP Aretha Franklin Interview + Nas And Kelis Back Together...On Stage!

Today on "The Wendy Williams Show," the talk show queen announced that she will interview another  person of royalty...the Queen of Soul.  Get the deets inside about Aretha Franklin's first interview since her surgery a few months ago.

Also, Nas and Kelis have reunited...at least on stage.  The former couple played to an Australian audience with Erykah Badu and we have pics for you.

Wendy Williams announced on her show today that she has landed an exclusive interview with Aretha Franklin.

“The legendary Aretha Franklin has invited me to do an exclusive, in person intimate conversation with her in Detroit, that's where she lives...The way I figure, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity, I'm going to go to Detroit where Aretha lives and where she reigns supreme and this is like the big sit down interview. So I'm packing my bags and we'll bring the camera crew and everything, and so far Aretha has two activities she wants us to do.

First thing is she wants us to go to the gym and the second thing is she wants us to have high tea together. That's fancy. When you have high tea, you wear one of those big hats like you're at the Kentucky derby and you drink with your pinky out and you eat square sandwiches with fancy stuff in between like grass. Even though Ms. Franklin this is a dream come true, I'm just so surprised that we're not eating the real food that I love to eat in Detroit...but that's ok, we're both on the slim down; we just need to relax. I'm going to share that interview with you guys next week.”

That should be a good interview.  I'd love to know if she is considering Jennifer Hudson for a role in her bio-pic.

Watch the clip here:

And down under in Australia....

Erykah Badu was one of the main acts for the Good Vibrations Music Festival in Gold Coast, Queensland.

She wore red, white and blue with a long wig.

Kelis was one of the other acts to play that night.  And it looks like she wore a pink stocking.

And you won't believe who else was on the festival's marquee..

Nas was in the building!

He brought along Damian Marley.

It's nice to see that although they aren't together, Nas and Kelis are professional performers who have no problems being in the same arena together.  I'm so sad they divorced.  I liked them.

Justin Bieber Named MVP Of 2011 NBA All-Star Celebrity Game

'We're just here having a good time,' Bieber says after winning the coveted title.
By James Dinh

As his quest for world domination continues, Justin Bieber took to the basketball court on Friday evening to co-headline the 2011 BBVA NBA All-Star Celebrity Game in Los Angeles. And even though his team lost, the teen sensation won the coveted title of MVP at the end of the star-studded game.

Bieber did his best to play alongside fellow celebrity participants including Romeo, Common, Rob Kardashian, Trey Songz, actor Michael Rapaport and Nick Cannon. Basketball stars Scottie Pippen, Bill Walton, Rick Fox, Jalen Rose, Mitch Richmond, Chris Mullin and Swin Cash rounded out the game players. While NBA luminary Bill Walton coached the Eastern Conference, Magic Johnson served as instructor for the Western Conference.

With the star talent covering the court, the East and West teams delivered steady competition against one another. But once the third quarter kicked in, the East Conference began dominating the scoreboard with a 41-33 lead. Bieber proved his basketball skills to his West team with a stat line that included eight points, two rebounds and four assists. But in the end, the Eastern Conference took the game by storm with a final score of 54-49 (Western).

Despite his team's loss, the Biebster won over the play-by-play sports commentators, who praised the teen star when he scored. "Justin Bieber! He could be thinking about that MVP award. He has game," one announcer said.

And as predicted, the celebrity all-star showdown ended with ESPN's Heather Cox awarding the Most Valuable Player trophy to the teen sensation. "We're just here. We're having a good time. We went out there and beat them," Bieber joked. "It was all because of my boy Magic over here."

Earlier in the game, Bieber rounded up his legion of Twitter followers to vote for him as Most Valuable Player during the star-studded game, tweeting, "Everyone text 'bieber' to 69622 for me to be MVP in the all-star celeb game. I'm going in!!! Haha."

Not only were his Beliebers able to snatch the title for the pop star, they also showed their support for the 16-year-old singer by creating yet another trending topic on Twitter called "BIEBER ALERT."

Justin Bieber Vintage Video: His First Meeting With Usher

Justin Timberlake also wanted to sign Bieber, 'Never Say Never' star said in 2009.

Just as the world was learning who Justin Bieber was, MTV News caught up with the shaggy-haired singer in September 2009. He was gearing up to release his debut album, My World, and plotting his pop-world domination. In the year and a half since that interview, Bieber has done the nearly impossible, launching himself into the pop mega-sphere.

In the chat, Bieber recalled how he and his manager, Scooter Braun, met and eventually got big names interested in signing the teen.

"My manager found me on YouTube. He flew me out to Atlanta for the first time — I'd never actually been on a plane before. He flew me to Atlanta where i was going to the studio to meet some people," he recalled.

"And Usher happened to roll up in his Range Rover. I ran up to him, and I was like, 'Usher, I love your songs. Want me to sing you one?' The politest possible way he could say no, he did. ... I took the hint. I didn't get to sing for him: He had to run into a studio session."

But later, Usher was beckoning the teen back to the ATL. "He actually watched my videos — after my manager got to talking to him — and was like, 'I should have let this kid sing,' and flew me back to Atlanta where I got to sing for him in a proper setting. A week later, I had a meeting with Justin Timberlake, who also wanted to sign me, so they both kind of wanted me."

As the story goes, Bieber went with Usher, and the two never looked back.

"As far as Usher being my mentor, he's definitely given me words of wisdom. I hear it from everybody, but definitely to hear it from Usher is great, just to stay humble and grounded is very important," he explained.

"There's a lot of people, especially young stars, that have gone down the wrong path, and I definitely plan to stay humble and stay grounded and keep my family first, because that stuff really is important in life."

On Friday, Justin Bieber's 3-D documentary, "Never Say Never," opens. The film takes a look at how the teen star worked to hit it big. MTV News has been chatting with him along the way, from the time he first burst on the scene in 2009 until now, as he embarks on a huge 2011 that will include a tour and more new music.

Britney Spears' "Hold It Against Me" Video Premieres

Britney Spears' "Hold It Against Me" Video Premieres

After teasing us with a 30-second clip from her new video, Britney Spears has finally revealed her full masterpiece! The video for the superstar's "Hold it Against Me" debuted last night, and it certainly did not disappoint.

Though we're slightly puzzled by Brit's constant product placement, we were more than satisfied to see the Britney we love, showing off her dance moves -- and her bod -- in black leather. The futuristic theme also worked, and we can't say the clips of older Spears videos and the Brit vs. Brit fight -- in which she put herself in a headlock -- didn't delight us.

Check out Britney's new video below!

Them Crooked Vultures make their debut with a post-Lollapalooza set.
By James Montgomery

Officially, Lollapalooza ended Sunday night in Chicago's Grant Park, with dueling sets from the Killers and Jane's Addiction. Unofficially, it ended very early Monday morning, across town at venerable rock club the Metro, with a surprise show by Them Crooked Vultures.

To the unfamiliar, the Vultures might seem like an odd choice to close out Lolla weekend ... until you realize that they're made up of Foo Fighters frontman/ former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, Queens of the Stone Age mastermind Josh Homme and Led Zeppelin legend John Paul Jones. And their gig at the Metro was their world premiere.

According to some reports, the Vultures actually turned down Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell's request to replace the Beastie Boys as headliners at the festival, opting to debut in front of some 1,100 super-psyched fans at the Metro, rather than 75,000 in Grant Park (tickets for the gig were announced via Foo Fighter/ QOTSA fan clubs). Meaning that, in a lot of ways, this was the most sought-after ticket in town.

Taking the stage just after midnight, the Vultures — Grohl on drums (of course), Homme on guitar and vocals, Jones on bass and keys and frequent QOTSA contributor Alain Johannes on guitar — ripped through 12 songs in 80 minutes, all taken from their upcoming debut, which may or may not be called Never Deserved the Future, and may or may not be hitting stores on October 23 (early "promo" videos touting both those facts were revealed over the weekend to be hoaxes perpetrated by QOTSA fans).

The songs, with appropriately Homme-ian titles like "Scumbag Blues," "Mind Eraser (No Chaser)," "Caligulove" and "Interlude w/Ludes," sounded pretty much how you'd expect, given the band's pedigree. They rocked, hard — Chicago Tribune critic Greg Kot described them as "fresh, invigorating and just plain nasty" — delving off into psychedelic, reverb-filled excursions and exploring proggy territory, "both of the old-school Yes variety, and the more modern Tool flavor," according to the Chicago Sun-Times' Jim DeRogatis.

It's not known if Monday's Metro performance was a one-off event for the Vultures — there have been whispers of a full-blown tour, but a spokesperson for Homme had not responded to MTV News' request for comment at press time. Nor was it clear whether or not they'll have an album out in October.

Early Monday, a Crooked Vultures Twitter account, which had previously posted links to the band's official-looking Web site and the Metro's online ticketing site — posted a link to what appears to be the group's first bit of official merchandise: a Deserve the Future T-shirt. Cost: $30.

'Hangover Part II' Trailer Drops Next Week, Todd Phillips Says

'It's truly a teaser, so it might end up frustrating more than solving questions,' director tells MTV News.
By Eric Ditzian

After the record-breaking success of "The Hangover" and the endless speculation about where the sequel would take place, after the casting gossip and the Mel Gibson controversy, after the first photos and the behind-the-scenes set visit, we're about to get our first peek at actual footage from "The Hangover Part II."

"We have a teaser trailer that I just finished color for yesterday night, so that'll come out next week," Todd Phillips told MTV News on Friday (February 18) while promoting the DVD release of "Due Date." "And I think it comes out in theaters on 'Hall Pass,' which should be next Friday."

It can't come soon enough. The film hits theaters May 26, and up until now, official glimpses at the production have been few and far between. The only reason for the dearth of Warner Bros.-sanctioned material, though, is that Phillips and friends didn't wrap production on the flick that long ago.

"We've had, like, one photo out, and that's just because we finished shooting on New Year's Day, and the movie comes out on Memorial Day," the writer/director said. "It's really just a crazy-tight schedule."

While Phillips wouldn't dish details about what we'll actually see in the teaser, he did emphasize that fans should temper their expectations: The footage will hardly offer a comprehensive dive into what the film is all about. "It's truly a teaser, so it might end up frustrating more than solving questions," he told us. "I love it. It's a true tease, if that makes sense. It's just one of those things that's gonna make you go, 'OK, let's see what more they have.' It's to pique interest and to remind people what's coming down the pike."

Lindsay Lohan: Ejected From Sunset Marquis Shindig

She has a habit of relying on her fame to afford her special privileges, but last night (February 18) Lindsay Lohan didn?t get the star treatment she was expecting.

The ?Mean Girls? actress tried to crash a private party at the Sunset Marquis hotel in Los Angeles only to be immediately turned away. In shame, she slinked off through the venue?s garage.

In related news, LiLo attempted to set the record straight about her Thursday night antics at Teddy?s nightclub- she claims she wasn?t ever in the club but rather just at the Roosevelt Hotel.

Lindsay tweeted, ?The reports i was at teddys are inaccurate?I was just at roosevelt to meet Samantha and say happy birthday to a friend. i take my sobriety seriously. please dont believe this accusations. i know the rules and i wouldnt risk probation. xoxo L.?

Justin Bieber's 'CSI' Appearance: A Cheat Sheet

Everything you need to know before Thursday's (February 17) episode.
By Jocelyn Vena

Justin Bieber appears on "CSI"
Photo: CBS

Last September, Justin Bieber made his first of two appearances on "CSI." In the episode, he played a troubled teen named Jason McCann. Amid plot twists and bomb explosions, fans were left wondering if young Jason was more trouble than he seemed.

Bieber returned to the "CSI" set in January, and while on set, he was hospitalized with an allergic reaction. But Bieber was fine enough to finish shooting his big second episode, "A Target of Obsession," which airs Thursday night (February 17).

"CSI" star George Eads, who plays Bieber's foil in the episode (Nick Stokes), revealed that Jason wouldn't live to see another day by the episode's end. "One of my crew guys goes, 'Man, you're going to split the country down the middle — half of them are going to hate you and half of them are going to love you,' " Eads said. "In the context of the story, he deserved it. I think in a way I was also at fault for killing Taylor Swift, too. Man, I'm going to have to stay away from a lot of people. Tell Miley Cyrus not to come on our show."

Bieber told MTV News earlier this month that he really loved being involved in the whole process of making the episode, including his fake death.

"Yeah, I get killed in the episode. I definitely get murdered," he revealed. "It was really cool because I actually — I get shot, like, several times," he revealed. "I fall down, and there's fake blood and everything. It's crazy how the whole process is."

Bieber also shared that he enjoyed stretching his bad-boy muscle for the part. "I'm not a bad person, so it's funny to play a bad person," he explained.

As for why the pop star chose "CSI" for his acting debut, he said, "I wanted to do something that's going to be challenging for me, and it's definitely going to be. It has been."

Will you be watching Justin Bieber on "CSI"? Tell us below!

Britney Spears' 'Hold It Against Me' Video: A Pop-Culture Cheat Sheet

From Greek mythology to mid-'90s Tool albums, Brit's latest is full of blink-and-you'll-miss-it moments.
By James Montgomery

Britney Spears fights herself in "Hold It Against Me"
Photo: Jive

On Thursday night, after weeks of teasing, Britney Spears finally revealed her video for "Hold It Against Me," a whirling, swirling dance explosion that features plenty of sass, swagger and exactly one flowing white gown.

The Jonas Åkerlund-directed clip also features plenty of nods to pop music's past — not to mention several blink-and-you'd-miss-it odes to film, TV and, of course, Greek mythology. As is the case with all massive videos, there's a whole lot to keep track of, so, much like we did for equally big clips like Lady Gaga's "Telephone" and My Chemical Romance's "Na Na Na," we've put "Hold It Against Me" through the wringer and compiled a pop-culture cheat sheet that's alphabetized and cross-referenced for your convenience. Believe us, this took way longer than you could imagine, but it was worth it. (Oh, and despite our best efforts, we're sure there's something we missed, which is why we need your help: Let us know what you spot in the comments below.)

Photos of the references in Britney's "Hold It Against Me."

The Graeae: In Greek mythology, they were the three sisters who shared a single eye. In Britney's video, they're hoodie-wearing dudes with serious dance moves (and no eyes at all). Same thing, really.

Iamamiwhoami: Icky, sticky viral-video enigma whose early clips featured plenty of lying around in the fetal position (and amniotic fluids). In "HIAM," Britney, covered in similarly sticky liquid, curls up on the floor, striking a pose that would make Iamami proud.

Kanye West, "Runaway": Over-the-top 35-minute mini-movie/allegory starring West as a man who cares for a phoenix who has fallen to Earth. The meteor that crashes to Earth at the beginning of "HIAM" reminds us a lot of the phoenix's fiery entrance in 'Ye's film. And, if you look hard enough, you can also see the song's lyrics printed out in the top left corner of the shot.

Madonna, "Bedtime Stories": Ultra-artistic 1995 video, directed by Mark Romanek, that cost a reported $5 million to make. From the futuristic set and the special effects to Brit's long, flowing gown and whirling dancers, it appears to be a direct influence on pretty much everything in "HIAM." Though we're willing to bet Brit didn't spend nearly as much to make her version.

Madonna, "Die Another Day": Big-budget 2002 Madonna video from the equally big-budget James Bond film of the same name. It featured a memorable fight scene that pitted Madge against her alter ego (Mariah Carey did the same thing in her "Heartbreaker" video, BTW). In "HIAM," Britney battles her alter ego in a (very fashionable) kung fu fight.

"The Matrix": Wachowski brothers franchise that featured plenty of TV screens and a whole lot of marauding machinery, just like "HIAM." Like Keanu said, "Whoa."

"Mortal Kombat": Totally awesome (and violent) fighting game that featured, among its cast of characters, a blue-garbed assassin named Sub-Zero. In "HIAM," Britney's dancers don outfits similar to him, only they don't shoot ice out of their hands. Unless that part's in the director's cut.

Robyn, "Indestructible": Sexy 2010 video from Sweden's sexiest pop export, it featured Robyn writhing on a table while wearing a dress made entirely of clear plastic tubes (courtesy of Australian artist Lucy McRae), sort of like the ones Britney uses to spray colored liquid all over the "HIAM" set.

"The Rocky Horror Picture Show": Cult 1975 film adapted from a British play, its iconic poster featured a pair of bright-red lips, which seem to have also made their way into "HIAM."

Tool, Ænema: Totally excellent 1996 album that featured several covers, one of which was a creepy, double-irised eyeball, courtesy of artist Cam de Leon. If you blink (get it?!?), you might miss a similar eyeball that pops up in "HIAM."

What did we miss? Share the pop-culture inspirations you spotted in the comments below!

Ne-Yo Blasts "Singers" Who Rely On Autotune

Say what you want about Ne-Yo, but dude is always a proponent of showcasing real talent.  And always keeps it real about folks who just don't have the voice or the star power to make it.

So, of course, he's giving his insight on why folks need to stop using autotune as wings and push their songs like their real artists.  Read on for his take...

Ne-Yo spoke out recently saying auto tuned should be used for what is there for--only to support the vocals of actual singers from time to time who don't want to compeltely wear out their voices because of constant performing and recording.

You don't want to blow your throat out trying to do the same note a thousand times, so you sing it a few good times and you let the Auto-Tune catch whatever notes fall out," Ne-Yo explained. "It was not meant to be wings. You were not supposed to strap it on your back and jump out the building, that is not what Auto-Tune was meant to be."

The singer/songwriter, whose production team Stargate, scored one of 2010's biggest hits with Wiz Khalifa's 'Black and Yellow,' continued to call Auto-Tune's saturated use in hip-hop "wack," saying artists who employ the effect as a signature sound like "robots."

"If you using it for what it's meant for, cool, fine and good," Ne-Yo continued. "I feel like the best singers do... Not 'I can't sing at all so let's just turn Auto-tune all the way up so that I sound like Willie the robot,' that's wack! That's terrible, it takes all the character outta your voice and you become a robot. You hear it on the radio and you go 'who is that?' and you have no idea because everybody sounds the same. If you're a singer, sing!"

Couldn't have said it better myself.  This "I want to become a star and tour and sell my record after I go speak into a mic and autotune it" ish is just becoming ridiculous.  It's always been a pet peeve of mine when random folks trying to be an artist purposely dumb down the music industry for consumers by pushing 100% autotuned songs.  And they're actually trying to become a star from it.  It's literally someone speaking into a mic and a machine turning it into a song.  Nothing special about the voice.  I'm not impressed and it's sad that this is becoming the standard of music now.

Glad somebody spoke out advocating raising our standards.  And I guess it's safe to say he won't be trading his beliefs and talents just for some airtime on the E! channel anytime soon, unlike other producers....

Suspects In Waka Flocka Flame Bus Shootout Evade Police After Chase

The rapper's mother/manager also posted a video reaction to shooting incident.

Police in Charlotte, North Carolina, spent much of Thursday night driving around in search of the two men suspected in the shooting attack on rapper Waka Flocka Flame's tour bus on Wednesday. Before the pursuit heated up, the Atlanta "Hands Up" MC's mother/manager posted a YouTube video in which she adamantly denied that her son had anything to do with the incident.

According to The Charlotte Observer, police chased after two men who were driving a white Dodge Charger that is believed to have been involved in the incident, which took place in the parking lot of a Car Stereo Warehouse in Charlotte where the 24-year-old rapper's tour bus was getting a sound system upgrade.

Around 10:30 p.m., undercover officers spotted a Charger matching the description of one of the vehicles that drove up to Flame's bus and sprayed it with several bullets. They called for backup and when marked patrol cars arrived, the car reportedly sideswiped one of the police vehicles as it sped away. After officers gave chase, the two men abandoned the vehicle and took off on foot, and though police conducted a manhunt for several hours, they were unable to locate the suspects.

On Wednesday, Waka (born Juaquin Malphurs) was outside of the bus signing autographs and posing for photos with fans when two cars pulled up and unidentified men in the vehicles exchanged gunfire with members of the rapper's entourage. One man, 20-year-old Antonio Stukes, was shot in the shoulder during the firefight and police are still trying to determine what role he played in the incident. An attorney for Stukes, who was released from a North Carolina prison in December after serving time for crimes including assault with a deadly weapon, said his client was an innocent bystander who had gone to the shop to talk to Waka about a record deal.

The paper reported that Waka voluntarily went to the police station for questioning and was released late Wednesday. No one has been charged so far. In the YouTube video posted by the rapper's mother and manager, Debra Antney, in response to the shooting, she mostly took issue with the media accounts of what happened.

"It is safe to say that we took no part in this," she said of the shooting, which she claimed was a random event that resulted in her son's tour bus being hit four times. "We had nothing to do with this. This was somebody else that came up with random shooting, doing whatever else it is that they do. Were they even shooting at the bus? Who knows? Because there were other cars that were hit. So there were cars that was letting loose and fire, to my understanding, but because the bus happened to be out there and it happens to be 'Waka Flocka,' so therefore it made 'good news.' "

Antney said her son's security followed "appropriate protocol" and returned fire when fired upon, and that everyone involved on Waka's side, including the rapper himself, were all properly licensed to carry weapons.

"He wasn't there, he didn't do anything," she said of her son in the five-minute video. "To all of you that think that all we are about is hood stuff and that we promote violence ... hip-hop is a way of life. That's what it was first created from, really. It was either your past experiences or somebody else's experiences. Like, things that were going on — that's what you [were] putting out in music."

Charlotte police and label spokespeople for Waka had not returned requests for comment at press time.

'Just Go With It' Narrowly Defeats Justin Bieber At Box Office

'Never Say Never' comes in right behind Adam Sandler, Jennifer Aniston rom-com.

A real-life wholesome teen did battle against a fictitious over-the-hill womanizer at the box office over the weekend as "Never Say Never" and "Just Go With It" fought a close contest for bucks. The economy was the real winner, as ticket sales surged overall by more than 30 percent, according to estimates. Disney's CG-animated "Gnomeo & Juliet" rounded out the top three with more than $25 million in revenue.

Justin Bieber's most die-hard Beliebers came out in droves to put the singing sensation's 3-D documentary into the #2 slot with a $30.3 million opening. As of press time, the figure was just a well-coiffed hair away from the estimated $31 million earned by "Just Go With It."

"I feel great," Bieber told MTV News backstage at the Grammys, where the 16-year-old Canadian sensation was both a nominee and a performer, shortly after news of his movie's huge opening hit. "I have so many amazing fans and they've been so supportive over these past few years and will continue to be supportive with my movie. I'm just excited. I have the best fans in the world."

"Never Say Never" was produced by Paramount (which, like MTV, is owned by Viacom). The studio worked tirelessly to activate Bieber's rabid fanbase in support of the movie, which focuses on his rise from obscurity to stardom. Special ticket packages costing $30 per head added an extra $700,000 to the film's opening, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Adam Sandler's "Just Go With It" opened strongly but will still have some distance to go in order to recoup its estimated $80 million production budget. Set in Hawaii, the romantic comedy-of-misunderstandings co-stars Jennifer Aniston and longtime Sandler pal Nick Swardson ("Grandma's Boy") but suffers from a 19 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes, which averages reviews from critics.

And while it may sit atop the box office, "Just Go With It" attracted fewer people opening weekend than recent Sandler flicks like "Grown Ups" and "You Don't Mess With the Zohan."

"Gnomeo & Juliet," the other G-rated movie in the top 10 in addition to "Never Say Never," was bolstered by Elton John tunes and voice acting from James McAvoy and Emily Blunt in the title roles.

The only other new film widely released over the weekend was the Roman Army movie "The Eagle," starring Channing Tatum ("G.I. Joe"), which opened at a distant #4 with just $8.6 million.

"Single White Female" retread "The Roommate," starring Leighton Meester of "Gossip Girl" alongside Minka Kelly of "Friday Night Lights," came in at #5 with $8.4 million for a $26 million two-week total. "The Roommate" was made for just $16 million, making that a solid number.

Driven by renewed interest thanks to its multiple Oscar nominations, Best Picture front-runner "The King's Speech" came in at #6 with $8.4 million for a cumulative $93 million total. The English historical drama was made for even less money than "The Roommate" and is closing in on the $100 million mark — a feat commonly reserved for explosion-driven summer blockbusters.

"No Strings Attached" was #7 with $5.6 million. The Natalie Portman/ Ashton Kutcher rom-com has made $59.8 million since it opened four weeks ago. Portman is nominated in the Best Actress category at the Academy Awards for "Black Swan," which was #14 this weekend with $2.1 million. The award-winning art-house flick is even closer to $100 million than "The King's Speech," with $99 million.

"Sanctum" followed "No Strings Attached" at #8 with $5.1 million. Executive produced by James Cameron, "Sanctum" has earned $17.5 million in two weeks with a production budget of $30 million.

Oscar contender "True Grit" and action-comedy "The Green Hornet" rounded out the top 10 with $3.7 million and $3.6 million, respectively. The Coen Brothers remake of the John Wayne Western has made $160 million in the past two months, while co-writer and star Seth Rogen's 3-D version of newspaper-heir-turned-vigilante "The Green Hornet" has made $92 million in the past five weeks.

Britney Spears Traveled To Mars For 'Oops! ... I Did It Again' Video

In anticipation of the premiere of Britney's 'Hold It Against Me' video, we look back at her classic 2000 clip.

Who would have thought that a red piece of latex would mean so much to a pop star. For Britney Spears, that skintight garment was something she wanted to make sure made the final cut of the ultra-glossy video for her 2000 smash hit "Oops! ... I Did It Again."

The video's director, Nigel Dick, reminisced in a 2009 MTV News interview about Spears' request for the now-unforgettable red-latex catsuit. "[She said,] 'I want to be in a red jumpsuit. I want to have a really cute spaceman, but there can't be any rockets,' " he remembered. "There was another catsuit, actually, which was fantastic, which I loved, and the night before, I was told that Britney hired this guy that worked with Michael Jackson. And so we're going to use that catsuit. So that's the catsuit."

As it turned out, making sure that they got the suit right wasn't the only dilemma for the director. "There's a bit about the Titanic in the middle, and I was like, 'What are we going to do about that?' " he recalled, laughing. "And she says, 'Don't worry. You'll sort it out.' "

The video was a high-profile project for Spears and Dick, who had a lot of pressure on them to top clips like "... Baby One More Time," which he also directed. " 'Oops! ... I Did It Again' was the first single from her second album, so there's definitely the sense that this is Britney's second album," Dick added about the expectations surrounding the video's 2000 release.

"This whole idea was my idea," Spears told MTV in 2000. "I was like, 'I want to be on Mars, dancing on Mars.' It's really futuristic. It's going to be the first video that I've done to have a lot of special effects. I think it's more mature. It's edgier. It's funkier. It's fun."

The shoot didn't go as planned, as a now-infamous on-set incident left the singer injured. "There was a camera, and there was an overhead shot, and they were filming me and the camera fell," she said. "And it kind of knocked me out, and there was drama ... but it was fine."

Don't miss Britney Spears' "Hold It Against Me" video premiere Thursday, February 17, at 9:56 p.m. ET on MTV and MTV.com, followed by a live discussion on MTV.com at 11 p.m. about the new clip and what's next for the pop star!

Rumored 'Dark Knight Rises' Star Marion Cotillard Praises Christopher Nolan

The French actress, who reportedly is set to accept a role in Nolan's upcoming 'Batman' flick, calls the writer/director 'a very, very smart guy.'

Another week, another report of an "Inception" star potentially joining Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises." Tom Hardy has already signed on to the project, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is reportedly in talks and now it seems Marion Cotillard is in discussions to accept a role, as well.

In addition to their shared screen credits, the three actors have at least one more thing in common: a whole lot of love for Nolan. Hardy has previously told us that working with the writer/director was akin to being "swept up on this carpet of love," while Gordon-Levitt has called Nolan "a genuine artist" and "a master." Cotillard, too, has spoken effusively about her experience with Nolan, so it's no surprise that she might sign on for what is widely thought to be his third and final "Batman" film.

"The guy is so interesting," she told us back in June of 2009, shortly before production on "Inception" began. "He writes his own scripts. He seems to be, from what I saw and what I read, so rich inside. He's got so many things to say and share and he's a very, very smart guy. You really can feel it in his writing."

As he did on "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight," Nolan is sharing screenwriting duties on the new film. He also earned an Oscar nod for his "Memento" script a decade ago and is nominated again this year for his writing on "Inception." While Cotillard confessed to us that she didn't exactly understand everything in "Inception" when she first read the script, the French-born actress put her faith in Nolan's talents as a writer of uncommon depth.

"Most of it really moved me and touched me, even though I didn't get everything," she told us last summer. "But I felt that it was something filled with so many things and that when you read a script like this, the first thing is it is Christopher Nolan's movie. He's a writer. I had a lot of questions, but I knew that I would have answers.

"I think it's the kind of movie that each person will have their own interpretation, and that's a good thing because it creates conversations about it and you can share what you think," she added. "It's a beautiful way to gather people and share something."

Check out everything we've got on "The Dark Knight Rises."
