Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
Short Story:
Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) is back for the fourth chapter of the epic Pirates of the Caribbean franchise! Joining the iconic pirate on his quest to find the Fountain of Youth is Angelica (Penelope Cruz), a fiesty con artist -- and, as it happens -- Jack's former flame. Of course, the duo must survive dealings with the nefarious pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane), Jack's frenemy Captain Barbosa (Geoffrey Rush) and some not-so-nice (maneating) mermaids if they want to bathe in those eternal-life-giving waters.
What They're Saying:
"Not as clever as the first, as fun as the second or as epic as the third, On Stranger Tides is still a decently fun swashbuckler. It just isn't a very good one." -- Flixist.com
"Its one real act of piracy is stealing away your excitement." -- Entertainment Weekly
Good for the Kids?
With intense action sequences, this adventure flick is rated PG-13 and a good pick for teenagers looking to keep tabs on Jack Sparrow's latest shenanigans. But with zombies and some decidedly nasty mermaids, this is one isn't for the tykes.
In case you missed:
Bridesmaids
Short Story:
From the producer of The 40-year-old Virgin and Knocked Up comes a hilarious new comedy that's already been dubbed a female version of The Hangover. Kristin Wiig stars as the down-on-her-luck Annie, whose stint as maid of honor for her best friend Lillian (Maya Rudolph) leads her to befriend a pack of eccentric bridesmaids (Rose Byrne, Melissa McCarthy, Wendi McLendon-Covey and Ellie Kemper) and fake her way through every crazy maid-of-honor duty on the road to the wedding day.
What They're Saying:
"Kristen Wiig becomes a movie star and takes back the term 'chick flick.' Bridesmaids has a big heart and a grown-up mouth." -- RedEye
"This might be a turning point in feminism and comedy, provided that both sexes can embrace it." -- TIME magazine
Good for the Kids?
This one is not for the kids, but you should probably splurge on a babysitter. This comedy is filled with an all-star cast, is getting glowing review, and is entertaining for both women and men!
Priest
Short Story:
In a post-apocalyptic world where vampires and humans are waging a bloody war, the succinctly named Priest (Paul Bettany) takes refuge in one of the Church's walled-in cities. But when bloodsuckers capture his niece (Lily Collins), the Priest leaves his safe haven and, accompanied by the Priestess (Maggie Q) and his niece's boyfriend (Cam Gigandet), embark on a dangerous quest to save her.
What They're Saying:
"Not exactly an unholy mess, but still a rather too pious retread of classic sci-fi/action/horror riffs that lacks originality or pizzazz." --Variety
"In an era where monster mythology has become raw material for all sorts of mediocrity, Priest is one of the best examples of a broad-scale vampire blockbuster." -- Boxoffice magazine
Good for the Kids?
With intense action sequences, sadly this is another film that is not good for the young ones. Rated PG-13, it may be entertaining for the teenage set looking for a good action movie.
