Daniel Radcliffe is taking a turn for the terrifying in his first post-"Harry Potter" film, "The Woman in Black," which is scheduled to premiere early next year.

A teaser trailer for the movie hit theaters on April 11 and, while not giving away much in terms of the flick's plot, it sets the stage for the horror film's dark subject matter. MTV News caught up with Radcliffe recently to talk about his recent projects (including his current starring role in the Broadway musical "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying"), and he admitted that "The Woman in Black" will likely terrify him.

"[I scare] very easily, yes. It's the kind of film that I probably wouldn't see if I wasn't in it," admitted the young British actor. "And I know a lot of people that have said that they aren't going to be able to see it and I'm going to have to force them to, because, yeah, it does look really, really terrifying."

It might seem like a strange choice for the star of one the highest-grossing film series of all time to shift to a low-budget indie horror flick like "The Woman in Black," but that it was those differences that drew him to the project. He noted that the upcoming movie didn't cost much to make, and it has a short filming schedule and a very small cast — all the opposite of "Potter" — while also pointing out that he found the story so compelling that he wasn't able to turn it down. In addition, the film gave him an opportunity to try something new as an actor.

"I think it will be a very big step for me as well, because I'm playing older for the first time. I'm playing a dad [who] would have been about the age of 25, so yeah, it's a big forward for me in a lot of ways. So hopefully it will be successful," said Radcliffe.

Getting a chance to work with director James Watkins, who Radcliffe described as being "very brave," was another big plus for him. The "Harry Potter" star said he spoke with a friend who had seen a test screening of the flick and told him that there was a particularly gripping 15-minute portion in the middle of it that just followed him walking around the house in which much of the film takes place with absolutely no dialogue.

"It is apparently some of the most compelling footage," Radcliffe said. "It's going to be terrifying, and at the test screening they had, apparently people were leaping out of their seats terrified, so I think it's just going to be a really, really good movie ... I'm looking forward to the full trailer coming out, presumably months down the line because I think when people start to see more and more, I think the buzz about it will continue to build."
