Charlie Sheen isn't going to rehab after all; rehab is coming to him! Following his hospitalization on Thursday after a reported partying binge, Sheen, 45, announced that he was voluntarily checking into a treatment program. Now Sheen's manager tells People that the actor isn't going to a rehab center after all, opting instead for in-home care.
"Charlie has put together a team that he trusts to help get him sober once and for all," the manager says.
That may be so, but it does mean that the same home where Sheen was allegedly chugging whole bottles of vodka and receiving king-sized cocaine deliveries is now going to be fashioned into his personal treatment center. Does anybody else feel skeptical about this? We've seen enough episodes of VH1's Celebrity Rehab to know that recovering addicts are supposed to have a support network. (And speaking of Celebrity Rehab, Dr. Drew Pinksy said on Monday that Sheen has "a life-threatening illness" and should take his time in recovery.)
Right now, it seems that Sheen has a support network of one: his ex-wife Denise Richards, 39, who has already paid Sheen at least two visits since Sunday. For the past year, the actress has been committed to standing by Sheen for the sake of their two young daughters, Sam, 6, and Lola, 5. She's also been vocal about Charlie's slip-ups -- but for the moment, she's staying away from the media. Celebrity news website Popeater says that Richards has already turned down dozens of requests for a tell-all interview.
"Her focus right now is on Charlie getting better and being there for her kids," a friend tells the site. "He is their father and Denise wants him healthy so that he can be a part of their life."
Richards is communicating with fans through Twitter, though. On Monday, one of her tweets read: "I think my kids will be proud how I have handled everything."
