- Planned Parenthood clinics in North Carolina will lose their federal and state money as of July 1 after Republican state representatives overrode a veto by NC's Governor Bev Perdue. NC follows Indiana and Kansas in defunding Planned Parenthood over outrage that tax money goes to clinics that perform abortions (even if the actual funds are not used on abortions themselves). I guess these politicians think the women whose cancer screenings, STD testing and Pap smears will be adversely affected are just collateral damage? [Huffington Post]
- A gay judge's ruling on same-sex marriage — that California's ban on gay marriage should be abolished — was upheld by a federal judge on Tuesday. Supporters of the ban say former Chief Judge Vaughn Walker should have recused himself or let the court know that he was gay and stood to benefit from his own ruling. [Salon]
